Transparency International Nepal formally launched Open Contracting for Health (OC4H) Initiative in Nepal on 23rd May 2019 in the presence of health and procurement sector representatives of the government, civil society, private sector, media, researcher and academia.

The event focused on introducing and familiarizing the concept of open data and open contracting in health along with the experience sharing from relevant key personnel from the health and procurement sector. An Introduction of the program and its objectives was shared by TI-Nepal’s Secretary General, Mr. Mukunda Pradhan while Coordinator, Mr. Tumburu Gautam briefed about OC4H’s execution, activities, and goals. The program proceeded with the views and experience of procurement expert, Mr. Shakti Shrestha followed by Young Innovation Pvt Ltd’s CEO, Mr. Bibhushan Bista, where he shared the concept of Open contracting and its importance in Nepal. Mr. Deepak Prasad Dahal, President of Association of Pharmaceutical Producers of Nepal, discussed the challenges faced by Nepalese pharmaceutical producers.

Similarly, Mr. Amod Ulak, Computer Engineer from Public Procurement Monitoring Office and Mr. Ramesh Adhikari, Director of Logistic Management Section (LMS) represented Nepal Government and discussed on the technicality of the procurement monitoring process and role of LMS in open contracting procedure at central level respectively. TI-Nepal’s president, Mr. Khem Raj Regmi concluded the event with his closing remarks appealing to the stakeholders to work together to achieve transparency and Integrity in health procurement in Nepal.
