Discussions on government led reconstruction activities were held with Janajatis, Dalits and women groups in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Ramechhap, Kavrepalanchowk and Lalitpur districts and their voices channeled to NRA. Earthquake Safety Day, was celebrated in 14 most-affected districts to raise awareness on survival and safety measures. TIN officers and volunteers distributed leaflet with a slogan ‘Integrity in Post Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation’ in major intersections of the districts. A mid-term program review was held in Kathmandu where officers from 14 districts came together to discuss IPERR program, its progress, activities of concerned agencies, challenges, upcoming plans, survey findings and earthquake preparedness.
Grievances (50) related to housing grants, second tranche, banking loan were collected from earthquake victims in Ramechhap and Bhaktapur districts. They were brought to the attention of concerned authorities. Hoarding board with IPERR message was placed around government offices in Dolakha, Sindhuli and Ramechhap districts. Boards promote toll-free number encouraging earthquake victims to lodge complaints. Public hearing took place in Bhaktapur and Makwanpur districts where around 200 people including major stakeholders (CDO, Bank representatives, NRA engineers, DLPIU) participated to facilitate public inquiries.
Seven schools in Kavre, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Makwanpur districts were visited to check transparency and quality of the construction. DLPIU engineers, school management committee, principal, parents, and contractor were made a part of the visits. A health Post was observed in Dhading district, where DLPIU Engineers, contractor and TI Nepal representatives observed the work in progress. To convey public feedback about the delay in reconstruction of ancient heritage sites, Hazarbuddha Mandir in Lalitpur and Nuwakot Durbar in Nuwakot were observed.
Policy level discussions on reconstruction law, guidelines and directives continued in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Okhaldhunga and Sindhuli districts. Elected local representatives, Chief District Officer, NRA, DLPIU and other stakeholders came together to talk on legal frameworks and challenges on reconstruction. Updates on reconstruction were shared by government officials. TI Nepal engagements have been well perceived by victims and stakeholder, and have helped to spread the message of integrity.
